Story: This Swordfish Masquerade by Nigerian-born sculptor Sokari Douglass Camp CBE is situated at 81 Hanover Park in Peckham. It was inspired by Kalabari traditional performers from the Niger Delta area of Nigeria. Born in Buguma in the Niger Delta of Nigeria Sokari received her art education at the Central School of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art both in London, where she now lives and works. This piece of work is very controversial since women are not allowed to make masks, perform in masquerade or detail the features of masquerade in Kalabari culture where she hails from.
